Building Momentum: Quad Lock Honda Breaks into Top 10!

The Quad Lock Honda Racing Team is making steady progress following the second round of the 2025 AMA Supercross Championship. While the overall results may not fully showcase the strides the team has made, they are steadily moving toward their goals.

Team Principal Martin Davalos shared his thoughts after the team secured their first top 10 finish with Joey Savatgy.

“I’m pleased we’re moving forward and making progress, but I’m far from satisfied. Joey should be consistently in the top 5 to 8 — I’ve seen it, and we need to work together to get him there. I’ve also seen Shane perform impressively on both the 250 and 450, and we’ll focus on getting him comfortable. His pace in the opening laps of the final showed he can be competitive,” Davalos said.

The team used the qualifying sessions to test new parts and adjustments, gaining valuable insights. Both riders competed in Heat 2 and successfully qualified directly for the main event. Joey Savatgy had a strong start but had to recover from an early mistake, while Shane McElrath found a rhythm and settings he could build on.

In the main event, Joey encountered difficulties behind a slower rider, costing him time on the leaders. Despite this, he managed a conservative yet steady race, recovering positions mid-race to secure a 10th-place finish, which he views as a solid foundation for improvement.

“It’s okay, but not where I want to be. I lost time playing it safe behind a slower rider because I couldn’t predict his moves, which cost me too much ground. However, I’m happy I was able to recover and work my way back to 10th. I need to be sharper at the start if I want to compete with the front runners,” Savatgy said.

Shane McElrath, while disappointed with the overall result, took away some positives:

“I made too many mistakes, rode tight, and pumped up. We made two significant shock changes today, which were positive, and my best lap times in the main were competitive. I just need to be more consistent if I want to finish inside the top 10. I’m frustrated but not defeated—this is only race two. We’re currently 13th overall, and we’re aiming for the top 10. We’ll get there,” McElrath said.

Round 3 takes place this coming weekend in Anaheim.
