The Quad Lock Honda Team has been hard at work this past week, fine-tuning their preparations for Round 2 of the AMA Supercross Championship with riders Shane McElrath and Joey Savatgy. Despite some initial challenges, both riders remain optimistic after a productive week of testing.
McElrath, who finished 13th in the opening round, sees the result as a positive step forward compared to last year’s performance at A1.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect going into A1. Last year, I got lapped, so finishing 13th is progress. My main issue was the inconsistency in my lap times and the need to bring more intensity right from the start,” McElrath admitted.
Following Round 1, McElrath returned home and continued testing with Factory Connection, feeling more confident about the adjustments made.
“We made some minor tweaks this week, and I feel much better prepared. The key is to bring more intensity to practice and qualifying, which will set the tone for race night,” said McElrath.
For Savatgy, it was a tough start to the season. Although it wasn’t the result he hoped for, he remains focused and determined.
“Qualifying was going well until I was taken down. The main event didn’t go as planned after a clash with another rider. On the bright side, we learned more about the bike and identified areas for improvement. We’ve made some adjustments this week, and I’m ready for San Diego,” said Savatgy.
Team Principal Martin Davalos is looking for a stronger performance in Round 2.
“We’ve identified the key areas to work on and made the necessary changes. I expect a more competitive showing this weekend. It’s a long championship, and we’re building a solid foundation. Patience and steady progress are our focus,” said Davalos.
