The 2024 World Supercross Championship has come to a thrilling conclusion, with the Firepower Honda Team securing their third consecutive World Supercross Championship title, alongside back-to-back Team Championships.
Shane McElrath was the standout performer of the series, dominating the competition by winning 13 out of 16 races and claiming victory at all four rounds. Remarkably, he was the only rider to win all four races in a single night. McElrath’s exceptional form and the team’s meticulously executed plans led to his second World Championship title and Firepower Honda’s third.
“This is as good as I have ever felt,” McElrath shared. “I feel confident lining up, just as I did when I finished runner-up in the AMA 250 Championship in 2020.”
Also in the 250 class, Cole Thompson had a stellar season, achieving his best-ever World Supercross Championship finish by claiming third overall, just one point shy of second place. The Canadian champion expressed mixed emotions after the final race.
“I wanted second in the championship, but the crash in qualifying hurt as I damaged my hand,” Thompson said. “I’m happy to take third—it’s my best overall position, and the team has been great.”
In the SX1 class, Joey Savatgy proved his decision to return to the 450 class was the right one. Consistently strong, he claimed podiums at every round and even secured a race win. Signed to a multi-year contract to race AMA Supercross, Motocross and SMX, Savatgy credited the team’s rapid progression for his success.
“Reflecting on where we were two months ago when I started, compared to now, it’s clear we’re moving in the right direction,” Savatgy said.
Aaron Tanti substituted for the injured Dean Wilson and claimed 10th in the final round.
Exciting news for 2025 has also been announced, with the championship set to begin in October in London, followed by a debut round in Buenos Aires. With almost double the rounds planned across at least five countries, next season promises to elevate the series even further.
Once again, the Firepower Honda Team also clinched the Team Championship. Team Director Yarrive Konsky attributed the success to his team’s highly experienced and selfless staff, the unwavering dedication of the riders, and the support of Honda Racing Australia and America.
“This achievement is a testament to the commitment of everyone involved,” Konsky said. “Our riders, staff, and partners make all the difference, and together, we’ve continued to set the standard.”
