Savatgy Shines, McElrath Extends SX2 Lead, and Firepower Honda Stays on Top of Teams Championship.

Round 2 of the World Supercross Championship delivered a spectacular show to over 12,000 fans at Perth’s HBF Stadium. The challenging track, complete with rhythm sections and massive jumps, tested the riders’ skills and provided an unforgettable experience for spectators. The Firepower Honda Team also extended their teams championship lead.

SX1 Highlights

Joey Savatgy showcased his speed by setting the fastest lap in Superpole, edging out some of the world’s best supercross racers.

“It was a great way to start Round 2. Every point counts towards the overall, those extra 5 points are massive” said Savatgy.

Savatgy carried his momentum into the night, securing his second consecutive podium with a 3rd place finish. He now sits just 8 points behind second in the championship standings and aims to convert his early speed into even stronger results in Round 3.

“The speed is there, but I didn’t capitalize. I need to improve my starts. Tomorrow is another opportunity, and I know we can fight for better finishes,” Savatgy added.

Dean Wilson delivered a much-improved performance, finishing 5th overall and climbing to 8th in the championship standings.

“Starts are still my weakness, but I’m happy with the 5th place. It’s closer to where I should be, and I’ll aim for another top 5 tomorrow,” said Wilson.

Local wildcard Kyle Webster, riding for Boost Honda, thrilled the home crowd by grabbing the holeshot and leading for five laps in Race 1. Despite some inconsistencies and a mistake that impacted his overall result, Webster finished 11th overall—a solid result on the world stage.

SX2 Highlights

Shane McElrath delivered another commanding performance, winning back-to-back rounds and extending his championship lead to 30 points.

“We’re exactly where we should be. This team and bike are incredible. The goal is the championship, but I’m also focused on chasing each overall round wins. Going back-to-back feels great,” said McElrath.

Cole Thompson posted a strong 4th-place finish but felt there was more potential.

“I should be on the podium. We qualified 2nd in Superpole, so the speed is there. I just need to execute better. Tomorrow brings new opportunities, and I’m determined to get back on the podium,” Thompson said.
