The championship has passed the halfway mark, and Round 5 will be pivotal for Factory Honda as they chase victories in all four championship classes this weekend on Murray Bridge’s sandy motocross track in South Australia.
MX1 points leader, Boost Mobile Honda rider Kyle Webster, remains focused on his goals. “Each race is important, and so is consistency,” Webster said. “There are still many races to run, and I need to race mistake-free in the present moment.”
Webster is joined by guest rider Lars Van Berkel from the Netherlands, who aims to prove himself in Australia. “I race for Honda in Europe in the deep sand beach races. The speed and endurance required are very different, but I love motocross and hope to continue proving myself against the fast Australian riders,” said Van Berkel.
In the 250 class, Polyflor Honda’s Brodie Connolly is determined to rebuild the points advantage he lost following a setback in Maitland. “Maitland was crap, no other way to put it. The start line crash wasn’t my fault, but it definitely hurt my points lead. I am glad to still be leading the points and I am chasing two race wins this weekend to extend my points advantage again,” said Connolly.
Connolly’s teammates in the 250 class are equally hungry. Ferguson, a consistent contender each weekend, needs a points boost, while Alex Larwood aims to claim his first victory after recovering from a broken leg earlier in the season. “I want this win, this weekend, or at least a podium. The bike is more than capable of winning, and I know I need to earn my seat at Factory Honda,” said Larwood.
Charli Cannon returns to the Women’s championship this weekend and is excited to compete against the best female racers in Australia. “My SCT Logistics Honda is great, and I am looking forward to the weekend,” said Charli.
Her brother, Jake Cannon, is aiming for his third consecutive round win and hopes to claw back more points in the title fight aboard his Mongrel Boots Honda CRF250R. “There are still a bunch of points I need to claw back to contend for this championship. Anything less than two wins will be disappointing,” said Cannon.
