YAGO MARTINEZ MAKES HIS DEBUT AT THE SECOND ROUND OF THE MXGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, THE SPANISH GP.

The second round of the MXGP World Championship, the Spanish GP, was the occasion for the season’s debut in this competition for our Yago Martinez, riding his TM 250 ES Fi 4T in the MX2 class.

The venue for this round of the World Championship was the intu Xanadú – Arroyomolinos circuit, not far from Madrid. The track was very well prepared and kept all the riders on their toes.

The weekend started with qualifying on Saturday, where Yago finished 23rd. In the afternoon there was the RAM qualifying race, which ended for him in 19th place, after always fighting in this zone.
Unfortunately, during the race Yago crashed short of a triple and suffered a serious wrist injury that required medical attention.

This ‘mishap’ meant that he had to grit his teeth to race on Sunday, but inevitably he had to drop the pace after a few laps in both races. In the first race he made a great start from the gate and was ninth on the first lap. After a few laps he had to drop the pace and finished the race in 23rd position.
In the second race he made another good start, which put him just outside the top ten. Yago tried to hang on, but a crash ended his GP.

Fortunately there were no serious physical consequences, but there was a lot of disappointment for a thumbs down weekend, where the rider and the bike seemed to be very much in sync, which bodes well for the rest of the season.

In a fortnight’s time we’ll be back in Italy for the third act of this championship, the GP of Sardinia at Riola Sardo.

YAGO MARTINEZ: “We are not very happy with this round. It’s also a pity that I have a wrist injury, which has limited me a bit. We had a good pace in the first few minutes of the race, but then we had to slow down. The season is very long and we will not stop until we have achieved our goals. Thanks to the team and all our supporters.
