Birmingham delivered highs and lows for the Quad Lock Honda Racing Team, with Shane McElrath securing his best overall finish of the season and Carson Mumford achieving his best race finishes before an unfortunate crash in the final moto.
SX1 (450 Class) – McElrath’s Strongest Performance Yet
McElrath showed solid pace in the first final, running as high as third early on. Despite a tough sand section slowing his momentum, he logged 8-12-9 finishes, securing 8th overall—his best result of the season—moving him up to 10th in the championship standings.
“We’re making improvements every round, and this is the minimum of where we should be finishing from here on out. I’m focused on racing forward and executing better every time I’m on track. There’s still work to do, but I truly believe we’re making real progress,” said McElrath.
SX2 (250 East Class) – Mumford’s Speed Shows, But Luck Runs Out
Mumford started the weekend on a high, posting his best-ever qualifying result in 3rd. He followed that up with strong 5th and 4th place finishes in the first two races. However, a crash off the start in the final race ended his night early. Despite this, he maintains a top 10 position in the championship.
“Everything was shaping up for my best overall result, but that last race didn’t go to plan. My leg is sore—I’m not sure what the damage is yet—but I’ll regroup, focus on recovery, and come back stronger. This isn’t where I want to be finishing,” said Mumford.
Davalos Confident in the Team’s Progress
Team Principal Martin Davalos sees the improvements and believes both riders are on the right path.
“Shane is doing a great job, and he’s still not close to his full potential. Every weekend, he’s getting better. Carson is showing what he’s capable of, and it’s only a matter of time before we see him on the podium.” said Davalos
With momentum building, the team now sets its sights on the next round.
